Ronin Elite 2011 Shisa Water Guardian Katana
The Shisa (lion dog) Water Guardian katana has been traditionally forged and laminated in the gomae kitae tradition
(five layer steel). This school combines panels of hard and soft steel for superior edge retention and shock absorption.
The inner core is formed from hard steel, follow by a U shaped layer of soft steel. This in turn is followed by a U shaped
layer of hard steel. As shock travels across the blade, it encounters five layers of alternating steel strength.
Blade lamination: Gomae kitae
Steel: 1095/1045
Tempering: Differentially hardened (clayed) and water quenched
Rockwell Hardness: 62 edge / 40 spine
Fittings: Handmade Shisa (lion dog) and pond themed tsuba, kashira, tsuba, and menuki
Kurikata, Koiguch, Kojirii: Polished buffalo horn
Polish: Japanese finger stone polish.
Blade length: 29 inches (habaki to tip)
Over all length: 40.9 inches
Tang: Full tang with Ronin kanji.
Grip: 10 inches
Wrap: Silk ito over genuine ray skin.
Saya: Bllack/white silk sageo over black/white lacquer with buffalo horn inserts
Ability level: Advanced dojo use (bamboo, tatami mats, etc)
